Attached is a preliminary poster for a show I am producing in Manistee, Michigan. It is a beautiful area and very popular in the fall when the events take place as all the leaves are turning colour. The shows are similar but different - one Friday and one Saturday. They feature 5 different ETAs on each night with a different song line up and are backed by the EAS Band. Emcee is Tarie Aron as Marilyn.
The casino wants to attract maximum audiences to build for an annual event so has priced the tickets at $10/each. That's right - including the world famous EAS Band as well as 9 of the best ETAs in the area and a rising young star - Jake Slater.
The casino hotel is already booked for the weekend but there are other hotels in the area that can be found at http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=manistee+michigan+hotels
The theatre seats 1500 and the area holds lots of other attractions including the Little River Resort Casino where the shows are being held.
Manistee is about a four and a half hour drive from Detroit and is well worth visiting. It even boasts a great ice cream store that always gets my attention while in town.
Come on out and enjoy an inexpensive weekend in a resort town with fine entertainment and an opportunity to even pay for your trip if you get lucky at the casino.

Millions couldn't help falling in love with him.

Now, more than 30 years after Elvis Presley's death, The King's legacy lives on, through his music, his fabulous home Graceland and the thousands of tribute artists reenacting highlights from his storied career.

A piece of that legacy comes to Manchester, N.H., next weekend, when the New England Elvis Festival visits the New Hampshire city affectionately — and in this case appropriately — dubbed Manch-Vegas.

"For the past few years, we've been looking to transplant our festival to a larger, more cosmopolitan stage," said Jason Sherry, president of Adirondack Promotions LLC, the organizer of the show. "Our inaugural event in this market will feature the country's finest tribute artists performing some of Elvis' most beloved songs."

Adirondack has also runs a similar event in Lake George, N.Y., since 2005. According to organizers, this festival is a qualifier for the grand challenge — the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest held in Memphis, Tenn., which crowns the King of the Kings and awards a $20,000 prize.

Tribute Artist Adviser Terry Collins estimates there are about 20,000 Elvis tribute artists actively performing at any given time. This competition narrows the field by extending invitations to some of the region's most gifted performers who make a living as Presley.

"People who haven't been to (an Elvis) festival don't know how good these guys are," Collins said.

The Manchester contest is modeled after the Lake George Elvis Festival, featuring 20 of the world's most seasoned Elvis tribute artists vying for the champion's crown and more than $3,500 in prize money.

Included in the mix will be local favorite Mark Stanzler of Manchester, a former chef turned performer.

"Singing was always a passion and hobby for me and gave me an escape from the pressures of working in the restaurant industry," Stanzler said. "During an extremely rare lay off period when the restaurant I was working at was closed for renovations, I decided on a leap of faith to pursue a full-time career (as an Elvis tribute artist)."

Stanzler, along with the other tribute artists, will perform a 15-minute set on both Friday and Saturday and will have his results from both nights tabulated to determine the overall winner.

"I'm really looking forward to the Elvis festival," he said. "These events are usually held far from New Hampshire, so I'm excited to be able to finally perform closer to home."

Collins said judges are looking for style, accuracy, performance prowess (Presley had a four-octave range) and a little something extra.

"There is something you can't buy or study, he's got to have that charisma," Collins said.

Besides the competition, Shawn Klush, 2007's Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Competition winner, will recreate Elvis' famous "Aloha from Hawaii" concert on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

"I sit there with goosebumps watching this guy," Collins said. "It's like watching Elvis."

The show will open with Pete Paquette doing a tribute to Elvis' early years. Both Paquette and Klush will be backed by the Change of Habit Tribute Band.

Other weekend highlights include an extensive Elvis memorabilia and souvenir sale and a free Sunday morning Gospel concert.

Shawn's father passed away Monday night after a long illness. Eddie is with God now and has no more suffering. He will be missed by all his family and friends. The Wake will be Thursday evening 5pm- 8pm. The funeral is Friday morning at Saint Mary's Assumption Church in Pittston at 9:30am.

ETA Mario Cervini has passed away

I just learned from an email in another ETA group that ETA Maria Cervini passed away on Friday July 10th from cancer. Per an email I read from Richard Rosenthal, Mario participated in the Windsor Elvis Festival since its inception and was able to attend some of this years' Windsor Elvis Fest, but was unfortunately unable to compete.

Here is the obituary that was in the Windsor Star and also there is a link where one can leave their condolences to the family:

CERVINI, Mario Passed away after a short, yet courageous battle with cancer on Friday, July 10, 2009. Together in love with Bonnie Roach for 12 years. Cherished father of Thomas, Louise (Mike), and James. Loving son of Antonietta and the late Angelo Cervini (1993). Dearest brother of Bill Cervini. Loved son in-law of Shirley Roach and brother in-law of Marilyn Roach (John) and Janice Pulley (Richard). Mario will be deeply missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He spent 27 years as a dutiful employee of Heinz. Mario gained recognition in the local community as an Elvis tribute artist. His entertainment expertise brought enjoyment to seniors, vacationers and many other community event visitors. He has been a participant in the annual Windsor Elvis Fest since its inception. Mario's family members and friends have benefited from his generous and selfless nature. Visiting at the Reid Funeral Home, 14 Russell Street, Leamington (519-326-2631) on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers Tuesday at 8 p.m. Funeral Service to Celebrate Mario's life will be held by his family and friends, at the funeral home, on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations, made by cheque, to the Leamington Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by Mario's family. The 10th annual Michigan Elvisfest is returning to Ypsilanti this year on July 10-11.

The nonprofit festival, which is sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., runs from 5 p.m.-midnight on Friday, July 10, and from noon to midnight on Saturday, July 11, at Riverside Park and Depot Town.

The event features a concert-like atmosphere with live music and performances by award-winning professional Elvis tribute artists from around North America. Also appearing as part of the 2009 festivities are tribute acts to other notable artists such as Tom Jones, Roy Orbison, Ricky Nelson and Elton John.

Games, Elvis merchandise sales and a beer tent are available for adults. A children's play area will feature face-painting, clowns, magic tricks and other activities.

Hi Friends,

Please see the attached poster for details on this "Really Big Show". All proceeds to benefit the Karla Begley Foundation.

The Karla Begley Foundation is a non-profit organization designed to raise funds for Karla Begley's very costly MS (Multiple Sclerosis) medicine. Karla has been living with MS now for 13 years, the first 7 years were manageable as she was classified as a relapsing/remitting patient. The past 5 years however have been more difficult as she is now in the secondary progressive stage of MS. In the past, once a patient enters the secondary progressive state there was not much the medical community could do for you other than trying to keep one comfortable. A secondary progressive diagnosis can be a slow and steady downward spiral or a fast and furious downward spiral to ones complete immobility and mental capacity breakdown. This has now changed thanks to a new medicine (Tysabri) that is designed to halt the progression of MS.

Tysabri is not a cure for MS but can stop or significantly slow the progression of the disease. Tysabri has shown fantastic results in newly diagnosed patients and is now also showing great results with some secondary progressive patients. The only problem is that our Ontario Government has not yet recognized this relatively new drug and therefore most insurance companies have not yet recognized it either, even though it is fully recognized and supported in other provinces. Karla has now been taking the Tysabri monthly infusions for 7 months and is showing very good results thanks to the tireless fundraising, spear headed by Lori Paraskevas and Pirkko Van Gyzen (friends and co-workers of James Begley - Karla's husband). Tysabri costs over $30,000.00 a year and to date we have raised over $29,000.00! This will allow Karla access to Tysabri for a complete year. We are desperately hoping that we can raise close to another $30,000 over the next 5 months to allow for another years prescription.

Since James and Karla are very close to the Legends/Impersonators/Tribute Acts scene, it made perfect sense to produce a show with the help of many Amazing Performers to help raise funds.

IT'S all about the hip wiggling, lip quivering and leg shaking.

Edinburgh is set to host a competition to find Scotland's best Elvis impersonator this summer.

Around 20 Elvis hopefuls, all born in Scotland, will audition for the title at the Corn Exchange on Saturday, June 13.

The event has been organised by the official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain, in association with the Capital's fan club, Edinburgh Elvis.

Scotland's winner will go on an all-expenses paid trip to compete against his counterparts from England and Ireland.

The three impersonators will perform live at the world-famous Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee, in front of an audience of around 800 fans on January 8 next year – Elvis' 75th birthday.

Paul Sayers, 49, the branch leader of Edinburgh Elvis, said: "The competition has been organised to keep the memory of Elvis alive, to keep his music going and to attract a younger audience.

"The participants have got to sing an Elvis song of their choice but we are looking for not just the voice, but a bit of Elvis' character, too. We are looking for an Elvis look-alike as well – they have got to play the part."

He added: "There are a lot of fans out there that don't realise how big the Elvis scene is in Britain. There are 40 fan clubs in Britain, four of which are in Scotland."

A panel of judges, including Mr Sayers, will select the top three auditions from the competition, with the audience deciding on the winner.

Todd Slaughter, 63, has been president of the Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain since 1967 and he will also form part of the judging panel at the Corn Exchange.

He said: "We have been operating the Britain's Best Elvis competition since 2002, but we haven't done auditions in Scotland before.

"It's a very good competition and it will be very entertaining. Appearing on stage in Memphis is every Elvis tribute act's dream."

Elvis impersonator Dave Hurrell will represent England in Memphis after winning the competition in Stoke-on-Trent in January, which around 30 people entered – several of whom were Welsh. The Irish auditions will take place in Dublin on May 1 and 2.

The person who is crowned Great Britain's best Elvis impersonator will earn a place in the world final, which will take place in Memphis in August next year. The actual venue for the event has still to be confirmed.

The Edinburgh competition, called Having Fun on Stage, takes place from 4pm on June 13.

Following the auditions, there will be entertainment until midnight, including a cabaret and an all-Elvis disco. Dance troupe the Memphis Maidens will also recreate a number of routines from a selection of the most spectacular Elvis shows.

TIPS TO BEING CROWNED CHAMPION
BRANCH leader of Edinburgh Elvis, Paul Sayers, will be on the judging panel for the Having Fun on Stage competition. Here he tells the Evening News what judges look for in an Elvis impersonator.

• The voice: You have got to be able to cross over to different vocals. From country to rock 'n' roll to gospel, Elvis sang every type of song.

• The looks: Elvis was pretty handsome. Impersonators would definitely have to have the same style of hair as Elvis and a nice, smooth look.

• The dancing: You have got to be able to move like Elvis. We would be looking for things like hip swaying and leg shaking.

• The costumes or fashion: Loud clothes like the white eagle jumpsuit, or for a more rock 'n' roll song Elvis tended to wear black leathers.

• Elvis fan: The impersonator would have to be a huge Elvis fan and have a passion to go to Graceland.

A very dear friend of ours and beloved entourage member was recently diagnosed with cancer and has been undergoing treatment, both chemo & radiation therapy. Therefore I am holding a special concert on Sunday, May 17th to help raise money for Rosalie Tholen to help curtail some of her medical expenses and living costs.

The show will be held at the First Christian Church located at 2511 E 3rd St in Mishawaka, IN. Showtime is 4pm with doors opening at 3pm. Eleanor von Boetticher says she's ready to enter the Dragon's Den.

The seamstress, who has built a name for herself producing custom costumes for Elvis impersonators, was recently picked for the Canadian franchise of the Sony series for would-be venture capitalists.

If she is successful, she'll end up with a partner who would provide capital needed for her to expand her fledgling company. She would give up some ownership and control by selling equity shares in the her company.

"It's huge exposure," says von Boetticher, whose company, Pro Elvis Jumpsuits, ships product around the world to a surprisingly large and growing clientele. She can produce about one costume a week, which she sells for between $900 and $3,100, depending on style and accessories.

At last count, there are 85,000 Elvis impersonators working around the globe. That fact and the enthusiasm of her family outfitted in her colourful suits, caught the attention of show producer Mike Armitage when CBC held an audition in Campbell River on April 1.

"When her husband and family came in Elvis suits, I immediately thought, 'What is that?'" Armitage recalls. "I thought: 'What a unique little niche business, I would never expect to find that in Campbell River.' Also, she was really nice and her husband was really into it, and bringing their kids. What a great story."

When they heard about the audition, von Boetticher said they had little time to put their pitch together.

"I went to Dragon's Den website and found out what they're interested in finding out from companies and put together a concept for a business plan to expand.

"I keep getting requests from customers for costumes they can have quickly, and costumes that are a little less expensive, so I've come up with ready-to-wear jumpsuits. They're going to be simpler than custom-made, but also less expensive."

They would come in sizes ranging from small to extra large and would be made in Nanaimo.

Van Boetticher, who occasionally stutters, admits she's nervous about going on camera.

"I think this is going to be one of the toughest things I've ever done," she said.

If all goes as well as the von Boetticher's hope, Nanaimo could benefit, too.

"If I get the money from Dragon's Den, it would be used to set up manufacturing locally," von Boetticher said.

Love Elvis Presley? Then you'll really love this. A genuine strand of hair from the King himself will be up for grabs at the latest fundraising event for ten year old Joe Charman.
The hair will be auctioned at an Elvis concert on May 9 when Elvis impersonator Rob Kingsley - who won Best European Elvis of 2008 - will travel down to Beaconsfield from Barnsley with his band to bring the house down at The Curzon Centre in Maxwell Road.

Organiser Chris Owens - a family friend of the Charmans who live in Candlemas Lane - has organised several gigs to raise money for Joe who is severely autistic and needs help paying for treatment in America.
But this event promises to be the best of them all with a night of rock and roll with as many of the King's hits as can be fitted into one evening and two incredible pieces of Elvis memorabilia for auction Mr Owens said: "Elvis's barber always kept his hair after he had given Elvis a hair cut. When Elvis's barber sold his house he gave the purchasers a bag (one of many that he had accumulated). This piece of hair is from that bag and comes in a display with a certificate of authenticity."
The other item is equally unexpected - a piece of rotting timber from the shack in which Elvis was brought up in Tupelo, which was literally picked up by Mr Owens when he visited the town last year.
Mr Owens said: "Rob Kingsley is amazing. I went to see him at the Grand Theatre in Swansea a couple of weeks ago, some of the audience really felt that they were seeing the man himself. He did a meet and greet after the show and he will be doing the same in Beaconsfield. The atmosphere was electric."
This will be the last fund raising gig for Joe for a while. Mr Owens said: "I am finding ticket sales hard the moment probably due to the credit crunch so I am putting the shows on hold until things pick up."

One of rock ‘n’ roll’s most long-lived legacies will appear in a tribute concert at the Legacy.

James Wages as “The King” Elvis Presley, will be in concert from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 2.

“I wanted to give something to the community I thought they’d enjoy,” Susan Jones, The Legacy operator, said about what inspired her to invite “The King” to her venue. “I’ve always liked Elvis, and am a huge fan of ’50s music in general.”

Jones said Wages, who’s been performing as Elvis for two decades, was recommended by others who’ve caught his act. Wages is a national and international championship winner in Elvis Tribute Artist competitions.

“His respect for and pride in portraying Elvis Presley is the reason these titles hold great merit to both James and fans alike,” Wages’ Web site states.

Wages confesses he’s been a fan of the King since he was 6 years old.

“My parents were watching Elvis’ movie “Loving You,” he remembered, “and from that moment on I was hooked. Something about him just spoke to me.”

Wages said he’s been perfecting his Elvis ever since.

“I’ve mastered a bunch of Elvis’s songs,” the Grand Saline resident admitted modestly. “But practice makes perfect, and I’m still practicing all the time. I’m 40-something years old now and I’ve been doing it since I was 6 — I don’t think Elvis fans are going to be disappointed with my show.”

He said his favorite Elvis song has to be “Now or Never.”

There will also be interactive dance contests with dancers from the Cherokee Civic Theatre in Rusk and several other opportunites to win various prizes.

“There’s going to be a lot of extras going on through the night,” Jones said.

A decade ago, Thane Dunn was doing landscaping for a living, and selling pre-planned funerals. Now, the Moncton native ain't nothin' but a hound dog, rockin' all the time.

"If you told me 10 years ago I'd be doing what I am doing, I would have called you the craziest guy on the planet,'' Dunn, who entertains audiences across North America as an Elvis impersonator, said recently. "To be honest, I can't believe I am able to do it.

"I feel very fortunate doing something I enjoy, and making a living at it."

A die-hard Elvis fan since he was young, Dunn earned extra income by imitating the King of Rock 'n' Roll until he finished as the runner-up in the world's largest Elvis impersonator contest in 2002.

Since then, Dunn has been on the road full time portraying the late rockabilly legend from Tupelo, Miss., the last eight years with his own back-up band, the Cadillac Kings.

"It went from me doing something small, like high schools, and took off from there,'' said Dunn, who brings his show, Unforgettable Elvis, to the Imperial Theatre in Saint John on Sunday night. "It keeps getting bigger and better."

Tickets for the tribute show, Unforgettable Elvis, are $32.50, $35 and $39 and can be purchased at the Imperial Theatre box office, or by calling 1-800-323-7469. His show starts at 7 p.m., with a Roy Orbison impersonator as the opening act.

Dunn's show includes songs from throughout Presley's career, and includes costumes fashioned by Elvis' tailor. The singer, who sold more than one billion records, died in 1977.

"I like knowing that die-hard Elvis fans, and even those close to him, approve of my show and have complimented me on my portrayal," Dunn said. "I make a living making people happy, reliving memories of the world's greatest entertainer, and actually get to turn some on to Elvis as far as the younger generation goes.

"I get a real kick out of it."

Dunn grew up listening with his parents to classic country songs by the likes of George Jones and Hank Williams Jr., but became smitten with Elvis after listening to an eight-track tape in his father's car.

His dad bought an old Pontiac in 1972, and the car came with a tape, Elvis Live in Memphis, stuck in its recorder. Dunn sat in the back seat and listened during trips from Moncton to his grandparents' house in Amherst, N.S., and learned the tunes right away.

"After a couple of trips, I knew all the words,'' he said. "I'd stand up in the back seat, start shaking my legs and sing."

The late great King was famous for his generosity, and donated money to children's charities throughout his career.

Dunn has kept that legacy alive, raising $5,300 for the Boys and Girls Club with proceeds from ticket sales for a performance in Moncton earlier this year. Proceeds from ticket sales for the show in Saint John have raised about $3,000 thus far for Hockey for Everyone, a program that helps pay registration fees and buy equipment for needy kids between the ages of eight and 12.

"Elvis came from nothing, and never forgot where he was from,'' Dunn said. "Me, I realize I am just lucky, no better or worse than anyone else."

A decade ago, Dunn was getting up at 6:30 in the morning and heading to work as a landscaper.

These days, he is shaking, rattling and rolling across Canada and the United States, and is entertaining the possibility of putting on a full-time Elvis cabaret in Branson, Mo.

Now, he ain't nothin' but a hound dog, rockin' all the time.

Stephen Kabakos recreates Elvis Presley history in Comeback to '68 on April 22.

Kabakos, known for his authentic performances, will return to Showplace Peterborough with a presentation of Presley's 1968 television special.

"It's a tribute to Elvis, but this is a production," statess Kabakos. "We're looking at this completely differently from anything we've done before. We're inventing a new kind of show."

Kabakos, who has presented The Way it Was, The Wonderful World of Christmas and last year's Aloha, states he's taking his passion for Elvis to a new, unprecedented level.

“Elvis Presley in Concert,” the production that reunites Elvis’ former bandmates live on stage with a video-projected Elvis, will tour Europe in February and March of 2010, it was announced today. After multiple, sold-out concert tours and a hiatus of nearly two years, worldwide public demand is at an all-time high for this Elvis concert experience.

This latest tour will include engagements in England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland and other European countries to be announced soon. Ticket sales for the engagements in England will begin April 21 at 3 p.m. GMT for Elvis Insiders, members of the official online fan community at Elvis.com/Insiders, and on April 24 at 3 p.m. GMT for the general public.

“Elvis Presley in Concert” is a production of SEG Events, in association with Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE). It is produced by Stig Edgren of SEG Events. Elvis impersonators promote new radio station

You're not seeing things.

If you catch a flash of sequined pants and black-dyed hair in your rearview mirror, that really is Elvis, or at least, an Elvis impersonator.

The impersonators in town this week are part of a promotion of the newest radio station in town.

The Illini Radio Group on Tuesday launched a new oldies station, 97.9 FM and 94.5 HD-2.

On the play list: music from the late 1950s, '60s and '70s.

"We felt it's a niche that is currently underserved in the market. There hasn't been a station dedicated to '50s, '60s and '70s music in a while," said program director Jonathan Drake.

In 2005, the radio group changed the format on WKIO 92.5 FM from oldies music to 92.5 The Chief, which plays mostly music from the late '70s and '80s. The Chief has evolved to play what Drake called "classic hits."

WPXN 104.9 in Paxton also broadcasts some oldies music.

"This is an entirely new station. It's a little different because 97.9 didn't exist in this market as a solo signal," Drake said.

This new station covers most of Champaign County, he said.

If you have an HD radio, the station's music will be simulcast on 94.5 HD-2.

It's a syndicated format, with the station playing "True Oldies Channel" music with New York City-based radio personality Scott Shannon.

"It's a lot of fun, good-time music," Drake said.

Several years ago the radio group decided to shift away from the oldies format because it had fallen out of favor, Drake said. But now with the music having been gone for a while, perhaps "absence makes the heart grow fonder," he said.

The music started at 6 a.m. Tuesday, and the squad of Elvis impersonators will be canvassing area streets again today.

My granddaughter Lola, at the age of two (2), was diagnosed with Juvenile (Type I) Diabetes. She is now four (4) years old. On a normal day, her blood sugar levels must constantly be checked by pricking her fingers a minimum of six (6) times per day and she has to have at least six (6) shots of insulin per day. Also, she must maintain a tightly controlled diet and scheduled food intake. Worst of all, this disease carries with it the risk of life-threatening complications. Many people who have Type I Diabetes die prematurely. Diabetes is part of Lola’s everyday life.

Last year Lola's family held a charity benefit to help fund research towards finding a cure for juvenile diabetes. We were fortunate enough to raise $10,000 (net) for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The Warren County Farmer's Fair will once again be "All Shook Up!"
Ryan Pelton, Elvis impersonator, has again been booked for the 2009 Warren County Farmers' Fair in Harmony Township.

Tickets for his show, which will be held 8 p.m. July 27, are on sale now at the Wayne Dumont Administration Building in the Rutgers Cooperative Extension/Fair Office, lower level.

Reserved chairs (only 200) in the main arena will be set up right in front of the stage and cost $15 per person. This year, tickets in the main arena are marked with seat/row numbers, so get the best seats now. Reserved seating in the bleachers is $10 per person.
Send a check for tickets made payable to WC Farmers' Fair with a notation of how many tickets are desired, to: Warren County Farmers' Fair, 165 Co. RT 519, Belvidere, NJ 07823. Please include a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope. No cash; only checks, please.

Branson Missouri, the live music show capital of the world is not without the sounds of “Elvis.” But even in a town where Elvis is portrayed on a daily basis by Dean Z and others in the “Legends in Concert The World’s Greatest Live Tribute Show,” Dave Ehlert in “Elvis and the Super Stars” and Tony Roi in “Tony Roi’s Elvis Experience” April 18 will be a special day for Elvis fans.

On April 18 the Legends in Concert and Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. will present Branson’s 3rd “The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest” in the Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater, starting at 7:00 p.m. The contest is one of only about 20 preliminary contests in the world sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc.

In addition to other prizes, the Branson winner earns the right to compete in the semi finals of “The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest” which will be held at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Memphis, TN on Wednesday, August 12 during Elvis Week. The finals and the selection of the “Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist” will take place in the same theatre on Thursday, August 13.

Melody Byrd, Group Sales and Marketing Manager, Legends in Concert, said that Branson’s “The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest” will be limited to 15 competitors and that all the contestants would be introduced during the 8:00 p.m. performance of the Legends in Concert show on April 17. The winner of the contest willbe performing at the 8:00 p.m. Legends in Concert show on April 19.

Byrd said the “The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest” is just one of the events that will be held at the theatre complex in conjunction with the “Branson Elvis Festival” April 17-19. The festival will include an Elvis meet and greet dinner April 17 at 5 p.m. at the Dick Clark’s Grill, and Elvis karaoke at Club 57 starting at 10:30 p.m. on April 17and 18.

On April 18, in addition to the “The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest” at 7:00 p.m., the festival will include an Elvis Vendor Village from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a free showing of the movie “Speedway” staring Elvis Presley and Nancy Sinatra in “the auditorium” starting at 10:00 a.m. On April 19, the “Grand Old Gospel Hour,” held at 10:00 a.m. at Dick Clark’s America Bandstand Theater will feature Elvis gospel music and the performance of the contest winner at the 8:00 p.m. performance of the Legends in Concert show.

A local Elvis tribute artist will take to the stage and strut his stuff next weekend in an attempt to secure a spot at a prestigious competition in Memphis, TN.

On Saturday, Apr. 4 and Sunday, Apr. 5, Milton’s own Anthony Von will compete at the Toronto Elvis Festival at Stage West Hotel and Theatre in Mississauga.

Fifty contestants — 41 adults and nine youth — will compete for cash and trophies at the festival, which is being held in co-operation with Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Competitors hail from Canada, England, the U. S. and Australia.

They’ll perform in one of two categories — “early” Elvis and “Vegas” Elvis.

“I’m kind of stuck in between,” Von said.

Tickets are available for the public to watch the judging sessions as well as a tribute dinner and show.

The festival’s grand champion will compete in the 2009 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Memphis during Elvis Week in August.

Von has been carrying on the legacy of “The King” since 1993, when he won a radio station contest and “saw there was a market for it.”

In 1996, the professional musician placed first as Canadian Grand Champion at the Elvis festival in Collingwood.

Channeling his inner Elvis certainly comes with perks, particularly the adulation of the audience.

“They’re watching every move you make,” Von said. “You’re singing someone else’s music, doing someone else’s moves and people are going mental.”

But he stressed he’s an Elvis fan before he’s an Elvis tribute artist.

“I think every one of them (competitors) are fans first. I think that’s why we do it.”

Tickets for the daytime judging sessions on Saturday, Apr. 4 and Sunday, Apr. 5, which include a buffet lunch, cost $16.95.

The Saturday, Apr. 4 tribute dinner and show — featuring nods to Elvis, Roy Orbison, Wynona Judd, Ritchie Valens, Johnny Cash and more — costs $59.95.

Admission is free for the Sunday, Apr. 5 Elvis Gospel Hour, with a small menu available.

And the evening of Sunday, Apr. 6, 10 winners will be announced, including the grand champion. Tickets for this show cost $59.95.

MIDDLETOWN — It will take Elvis twice as long to leave this building.

Two Elvis Presley tribute artists — one representing rock 'n' roll music from 1956; the other 20 years, and a few pounds, later — will perform May 2 at the VFW Social Center 3809, 6962 Coles Road, Middletown.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Veterans' Memorial Foundation's Scholarship program, said Anthony "Tony" Valen, chairman of the committee.

Five years ago, after the Veterans' Memorial was erected at Woodside Cemetery and Arboretum in Middletown, all with public donations, Valen said there was an excess of $100,000. Half of that was set aside for college scholarships, and the rest was earmarked for upkeep of the monument.

Valen said the scholarships provide academic assistance to those who have served in all branches of the military and their family members.

Valen said the Veterans' Memorial will be rededicated on July 5.

First, Valen hopes Bradley Scott and Kavan, two Elvis impersonators, raise money for the organization.

Six years ago, Scott, of Middletown, performed a benefit concert for the Veterans' Memorial Committee.

Scott said he wanted to organize a show that "presented a broader spectrum of the Elvis tribute that most audiences don't normally get to see."

So he's sharing the stage with a musician known as Kavan, who will portray the early era of Presley's career, while Scott will reflect the Las Vegas and "Elvis in Concert" touring days of 1972-1977.

Kavan, 20, has performed all over the United States and various parts of Canada. He also sings with his three-piece rockabilly band "Third Degree Sideburn," with whom he recreates the early Elvis concerts of 1954-1957.

Scott, who works in food service at Atrium Medical Center, said he was "thrilled to death" to share the stage with Kavan.

They have "crossed paths" over the years, but this will be the first time they have performed together.

Valen said it was important during these "tough economic times" to keep ticket prices reasonable. Presale tickets are $10.

"You can't go anyplace for that," Valen said. "It's a bargain. We should sell out."

He ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog…and he’s coming to Delhi.

The Delhi Kinsmen are presenting Elvis Live to Elvis fans of Delhi on Mar. 27 at the Delhi District German Home.

“He is not like any other Elvis impersonator you have ever seen,” said Delhi Kinsmen past president Randy Moffatt. “He is the closest thing to the King himself… we think anyway. He even resembles him right down to a tee.”

Elvis – Anthony Von – has been performing for 15 years and is world-renowned, having won contests across North America, including the title of Canadian Grand Champion at the Collingwood Elvis Festival.

Playing tributes to the king of rock n’ roll since 1993, he has many years of entertainment experience under his belt including his own 50s and 60s swing band, the Beale Street Band.

“He is a tremendous performer,” Moffatt said. “He is very high energy and really leaves the audience feeling like they have seen the real thing.”

The Elvis Live performance is taking place of the yearly Yuk Yuk’s comedy night hosted by the Kinsmen.

Not wanting to lose the date at the German Home – which the Kinsmen hold yearly – they decided to try something new.

“We thought having a 50s and 60s theme was a great idea until low and behold, everyone decided to do that theme this year,” Moffatt joked. “I can assure that no one will be disappointed. We may bring Yuk Yuk’s back, but we really wanted to put a twist on things this year.”

All proceeds from Elvis Live will go towards the remaining fundraising needed for the Delhi Quance Mill project.

“We have $27,000 left to raise,” said Moffatt. “We stress that we know everyone is in tough economic time but we have a town right now that is absolutely booming. This is good, cheap fun. Get out and have a fun night out.”

Tickets for Elvis Live are $25 and doors open at 7 p.m., on Mar. 27. Tickets are available at Dave’s Variety, Delhi District German Home, and Ken Person at Coldwell Banker, Larry VanGoetham at (519) 582-1981 and Brent Stefan at McFarland Rowlands Insurance.

Old music groups would get new protections from impostors under legislation that passed the state Senate on Tuesday.

But rest easy: Elvis impersonators should be OK.

Senate Bill 226 would hit musicians who perform under another band’s name with fines of $5,000 or more, unless they have permission to do so from at least one member of the original group. The intention is to protect old-time groups from “a sophisticated form of identity theft,” sponsoring state Sen. John Crosby said.

“Unfortunately existing law has failed miserably in this regard,” said Crosby, R-Tifton. “For years imposter musical groups have been duping customers.”

Tribute bands wouldn’t be subject to fines as long as their advertising identifies their performance as a “salute” or “tribute,” the bill states. And the legislation wouldn’t outlaw impersonations of performers such as Elvis, Neil Diamond or Frank Sinatra, Crosby said.

“All they have to do is tell the truth,” he said.

Senate Bill 226 passed 54-0 and moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Belgian broadcaster RTBF, has announced that Patrick Ouchéne will be representing the country in the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow this year. Ouchéne will be singing Copycat on the stage in Elvis Presly mode. The song will be revealed on 10th March, but a teaser for the song is available at Youtube.

Forty three year old Patrick Ouchéne has been selected from the band Runnin' Wild, which is popular around Belgium. Patrick Ouchéne is known to be a performer in the style of Elvis Presley.

Ouchéne will be representing Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Copycat in Moscow. The song is written by Jacques Duvall, who has written Le Banana Spirit which has sold out more than 2 millions. Ouchénes group, Runnin' Wild, also worked with Duvall in the album I Dressed In Black Today which was released last year.

Belgium will participate in the first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest on 12th March this year.

Belgian broadcaster RTBF also announced that Patrick Ouchéne will be revealing his song at a press conferance on 10th March. The broadcaster shares a very short taster video with the fans online via the internet. You can watch it below.

CLEAR LAKE — Those who love Elvis Presley’s music will not want to miss “The Voice of Elvis and Legends Texas Tour” concert at 6 p.m. March 12 at the Bayou Theater on the University of Houston at Clear Lake’s campus, 2700 Bay Area Blvd.

Award-winning second-generation tribute artist Jesse Aron, 33, of Wisconsin, will perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. taking on two roles — Elvis and Roy Orbison.

“I do three decades of Elvis — the ’50s through the ’70s and three costume changes,” said Aron. “I do Roy Orbison at the end of the first set.”

His wife, Tarie Aron, will serve as Marilyn Monroe and the show’s mistress of ceremonies.

“I like performing as Elvis because it’s an opportunity to make people happy and bring back memories — as well as introducing Elvis to new, younger fans,” Aron said.

Aron said he enjoys educating the audience about Elvis during his show with things they may not have known.

“I try to be pretty respectful. I portray Elvis the right way.”

He is a two-time “Grand Prize Winner” at Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s Potawanomi Casino Event and a two-time “Lady Luck Music Peoples Choice Winner” in Montreal.

“I’ve been called the ‘Voice of Elvis’ by my peers and people in the same business,” Aron said.

“Some people have said after concerts that if they close their eyes, it would be like Elvis was there.”

Aron also has performed with many of Elvis’ musicians and backup singers including “The Jordanaires” and Elvis’ original drummer, D.J. Fontana.

(EPE) announced today that due to the overwhelming response and success of the past two years’ international search, it is launching the third annual “Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest™” for 2009. As with 2008, contestants will be selected at more than 20 licensed preliminary Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contests being held at fairs, festivals and other venues around the world. The semifinal round and finals will be held during Elvis Week in Memphis, August 8 to 16, 2009.

“The worldwide response to our first two years of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest has exceeded our expectations,” said Scott Williams, VP of Marketing for EPE. “The contest is a way for original Elvis fans, as well as a growing new generation of fans, to celebrate Elvis’ never-ending contribution to the world of entertainment. We are also thrilled to be working with MySpace Karaoke again in 2009, although this time singers will be vying to compete in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest.”

Thousands of singers recorded their versions of Elvis songs to compete last year for a chance to come to Elvis Week. This year’s MySpace Karaoke participants will be submitting their performances as Elvis tributes artists. The winner will get the opportunity to be an official competitor in The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest held during Elvis Week. The MySpace Karaoke winner will also appear as a guest DJ on Elvis Radio on Sirius XM, and receive other prizes.

"We were very impressed with the quality of contestants and again congratulate Brandon Bennett, named The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist by Elvis Presley Enterprises for 2008,” said Williams.

Judges will be looking for the “best representation of the Elvis legacy” in talent, appearance, performance, stage presence and each contestant’s overall tribute to Elvis. The best overall performer will be named the “2009 Elvis Tribute Artist of the Year.”

More than 20 preliminary contests were held in 2008 in competitions from Australia to France to Canada and throughout the United States. 'Elvis' plans Springfield gig

Elvis is in the building.
At CityStage in Springfield to be exact.

Matt Lewis, who has headlined around the globe with the world-famous "Legends in Concert" show and who USA Today named "The Best Elvis in Vegas," is bringing his "Long Live the King" show to the Springfield stage for six days beginning on Tuesday. (March 3 2009)

"People tend to have their favorite Elvis periods, so we try to hit every era in the show so audiences can get to see their favorite," Lewis said.

The popular Elvis impersonator noted his 90-minute plus show will take audiences from Elvis in his early years of swiveling hips through the movie years and his 1968 black leather comeback special on television to his white jump suit days in Las Vegas.

"It's a very energetic, high-paced show complete with a band and two dancing girls," Lewis said.

The dancing girls are an added inspiration to the show, as is the accompanying video constantly running in the background which serves in part as a replacement for the Jordanaires, Elvis' longtime popular backup singers.

"While we have live musicians, our background vocals are on tracks, however, the video allows the audience to see some background singers on the screen behind me instead," Lewis said.

"For example, when I sing 'Return to Sender' the group that performs as the Temptations in our Legends show in Las Vegas can be seen singing background in front of the famous Las Vegas sign," he added.

Lewis said the video screen is also used during a "very quick one minute and 15 second costume change when I have Ed Sullivan introduce a song." In another instance, while dressed as Elvis on stage, the audience will see Lewis doing his own backup vocals as seen in the studio singing them.

Over the past 10 years, Lewis has devoted 90 percent of his entertaining to performing as Elvis in the "Legends In Concert" show, with the last five years at the show's home at Imperial Palace Hotel on the Las Vegas strip. He has also appeared on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," featured on several pages of "Entertainment Weekly," and starred in a major feature film entitled "Tears Of A King."

Lewis first impersonated Elvis at a school talent show at the age of 12 and was rewarded with second place for his efforts. But it wasn't until seven years later that his talents would truly be recognized with first place honors in "The Best Elvis in Kansas City" garnering him a trip to Graceland courtesy of the radio station promoting the contest.

"After that first contest, impersonating Elvis became pretty much a job for me through high school. Suddenly people were paying me $100 to sing at their parties. I was only 12 and I had never seen a $100 bill before," Lewis said.

"I thought this was really good money and I was getting a lot of attention, so I decided to study Elvis more and watched a lot of videos of him. My dad then started to fix my hair like Elvis, but I couldn't grow any sideburns, so he drew them on, and that's how it really all started for me," he added.

The years in-between those fate changing contests saw Lewis washing dishes at a local restaurant and five years entertaining at a local theme park in Kansas City called "Stax of Wax, a '50s and '60s rock and roll revival. He also signed with an agent and began to work around the country.

Still, Lewis' dream was to become a teacher and he went through five years of college as a student whose alter ego of Elvis Presley kept him working and paying his bills.

Then, suddenly, during his fifth year he decided to drop out of school and pursue becoming an entertainer full-time.

He moved to Branson, Mo., and signed with a show called Mirror Images which Lewis described as "sort of a second-rate Legends-type show which was actually playing down the street from us."

"A month after being with the show it was canceled and I remember sitting on the tailgate of my new truck feeling distraught after just dropping out of school and thinking I would be working in the show forever," Lewis said.

"Somebody once told me if you have something to fall back on you probably will. I had nothing to fall back and couldn't get my classes back so I began knocking on every theater door in town," he added about eventually landing a job in Legends.

Lewis said he hopes to pursue more television and film projects as an actor in the future, not as an impersonator and to direct live stage productions.

It's a fresh new forum for Elvis Tribute Artist's and fans alike. Keep up to date on concert listings, daily news, and listen to the juke box jammed with submitted ETA recordings. It will also have a market place for both ETA's and fans to post (for free), Elvis related items that are for sale, trade or just for extra exposure. There will also be an ETA directory (complete with pics, contact info, and web links). An ETA of the month feature bio, as well as a resource centre for all your tribute needs! We are also hoping to launch a concert-review page. Where fans can write their own views on past shows and festivals that they have attended.
